I watched the Prouder and Louder episode and they really shouldn't have even tried it with that storyline. The group being mad at Zoey was uncalled for, it's not like she can change that. Zoey wasn't even there for the initial "he only dates white girls" conversation, and as soon as she heard about it, she immediately asked Noah about it and dropped him. They should have had Zoey in on the conversation to hear Maya's original comment about Noah.

They were all truly horrible to her. They really uninvited her to a party she's been coming to for years, because of a boy.

It's not like she's just some random white girl, she's their friend, them thinking she's so undesirable and that's the only way a celebrity.. a boy would like her was just horrible.

It's giving "we only hang around you because you make me feel better about myself."

They should have bought the conversation to Noah, like do you realize how much self hate that kid has, like what do you mean you only date white girls. That would have been a good opportunity for his parents or one of Penny's parents to give him a talking too.

Would he still have bought a white girl to the dance? Yeah probably but now he would have been more aware of his actions..

Edit: I thought it was weird they just believed Maya about Noah's preference, so many people lie about their family members living near celebrities and I know she's supposed to be the new cool and chill character. But them just believing her from the go and ganging up on Zoey someone they've know for years, wasn’t it.

Day 13: Double feature and rewatch, Blood Relatives and Hellraiser

This was a fun watch! Definitely on the less spoopy side of things... Honestly, if the Hallmark channel was alright with a series of casual murders, it would fit right on.

Scary: 1 out of 3. Not that kind of movie. Almost, as I noted above, not a horror movie... Aside from the casual murder.

Gross: 1 out of 3. There's a couple of things, as you would expect from a story about vampires, but nothing you wouldn't see on any mainstream show these days.

Disturbing: 1 out of 3. Blood Relatives isn't trying to be disturbing really.

Funny: 2 out of 3. Some great, as Noah would say, schtick in the movie. A couple of lines, a couple of situations. Maybe it's my own inner Dad of a daughter showing, but it's weird how relatable some of the scenes were.

Thoughtful: 2 out of 3. Not thoughtful in the way TV Glows was, by any stretch. But there was a fun world created along the way. I could even see this is a great jumping off concept for a very wholesome game of World of Darkness or the beginning of a Monsterhearts campaign.

Total score: 7 out of 15. If you want a movie that waves a Spooptober flag, but really is just a touching story about family and identity, you might like it.

I also sort of accidentally rewatched the original Hellraiser, so I thought I might as well throw it up here.

I'm a fan of Clive Barker's writing, or I was a long time ago. I enjoyed his style of building dark fantasy worlds through mysterious exposition sometimes not explained at all, or only between the lines.

The original Hellraiser (ignoring the franchise here to take this movie as it is) illustrates that pretty well, and no wonder since they let him direct and write it.

Scary: 1 out of 3. Granted, I've seen this one a time or two before, so it's not as though I wouldn't see scares coming, but I don't think the movie leans that way regardless.

Gross: 2 out of 3. The body horror, the practical effects, drive home the visceral nature of the 'monster' in Hellraiser. What sights, indeed. Some of the effects are now extremely dated and almost silly. There's a particular creature from... Let's call it Hell that is disturbing and weird, but almost laughable in today's era for some reason. Still, they did a great job on the really important parts.

Disturbing: 2 out of 3. A lot of what disturbs me, and I think it's intended, about Hellraiser isn't the supernatural elements, but the behavior of the characters that are supposedly material people. I find myself thinking "no one would act like that, do that, be motivated by that" in one breath, and then remembering history, distance and near, and then suddering. I'm afraid to think that, ultimately, Pinhead and company really have no hope of competing with humanity's capacity for bullshit.

Funny: 1 out of 3. I don't think I laughed once during the movie. Well, not at the movie. My daughter was the initiator (I just sort of came in and sat down to watch with her) and we had some commentary that amused me.

Thoughtful: 2 out of 3. The world of Hellraiser, and the novella it sprang from are interesting, if not complete and coherent. I would be shocked if the watchers of the original film, back in the day, didn't leave the theater with a few questions about the Cenobites, about the puzzle box, the place they 'connect to', etc. etc. I understand that in other media, a sort of expanded universe, attempts are made to answer these questions and more. I haven't touched those much, because I prefer the mystery, but maybe I'll get around it to next Spooptober.

Total Score: 8 out of 15. Do you enjoy supernatural horror where the 'bad guys' aren't always what you anticipate? Hellraiser is a classic, and if you can get past the dated effects you might enjoy the story and some classic spooky gore.

Well.. that's a wrap folks! I can't believe it's almost been two whole years of Somnium! Thank you so much to anyone who's read along and gotten as attached to my guys as much as I have. I had no idea where I was going or what I was getting into when I started this, and what a beast it turned into!! Over 790 scenes 😱 I've had more fun than I could've imagined and although this is the end of Somnium, it's not the end of Oscar n' co. and certainly not the end of my storytelling ventures! I am muddled about her feelings about Mages and the plight in general. I feel if Bethany and her dad hadn't existed or if she didn't love them both SO MUCH, I think she wouldve sided more with the templars bc it was advantageous. But then if they didnt exist or she didnt love them, she wouldnt be her. So it is moot, I guess. Her love for them is what motivates some of her actions -- so while it isnt altrustic, does it matter?

Speaking of 'not altruistic'. Her approach to things does tend to be cake and eat it too. Her motivation is often her own agenda and greed, but she will still do the right thing.
